The Lost Ring, by Antonio Manzini

Beyond the series of each particular protagonist, there is always the feeling of a separate life that remains veiled. On this occasion this volume of stories comes to cover those gaps that give more entity if possible to the character of Rocco Schianove of Manzini. Because in the small encounters with this researcher we weave together that other life beyond the long novels.

Every police officer or investigator of crime or suspense novels will face many other cases that are not dealt with in their novels. Here we enjoy those little flashes that somehow cover the life and work of our main character. The point is that Manzini also knows how to transmit in each story the same tension as in his great compositions. So we can only enjoy and load ourselves with more complete visions of Schiavone. Because surely from these cases references can arise in his following novels.

Independent of each other, these five stories, read together, compose a unique image of Underboss Rocco Schiavone, which will delight both his loyal fans and those who have never read his investigations.

In the first account, an unidentified corpse appears spread out over a woman's coffin, with a wedding ring as the only clue. The following stories – a mountain excursion of three friends that ends with a death; a fraudulent football match between lawmen; a crime in a train compartment; the murder of an innocent hermit– become a mysterious investigation in which the deputy boss pours out his existential discomfort, with a powerful social denunciation as a backdrop and an ironic narration that borders on sarcasm.
