M. The man of providence, by Antonio Scurati

Experience shows that providence is expected in the darkest times in the world. Like the rain of great storms, just before the lightning strikes. Nothing better than a good populism capable of presenting itself as a champion of the best future so that this strange faith ends up focusing on the new Messiah on duty. Perhaps it is the fault of religion, even, because in the worst moments we look for God or someone who resembles him, whatever his message ... M was that man of providence for Italy and Antonio Scuratti He is determined to show us how the sinister coincidences that overshadowed half the world were forged.

In 1925, a figure in a black shirt and an arrogant gesture began to occupy all the interstices of Italian public life. Benito Mussolini, once he has become the youngest President of the Council in the history of Italy, prepares for the next step of the fascist project: to merge his name with that of his own country.

But the path of authoritarianism is not simple: internal struggles in the party, very tough parliamentary battles, the revolutionary threat, the need to expand territorially, a turbulent personal and palace life, assassination attempts and the new relationship with a young Herr Hitler, each more popular. Everything so that Mussolini, fascism and Italy are one. This process will take shape until, in 1932, a decade of the march on Rome is completed. But there is no time to look back, the future seems to hold bright promise for fascism.
