The 3 best Julia Roberts movies

The problem with a film like "Pretty Woman" is that it achieves more than pigeonholing and ends up marking as a stigma. And then it's hard to catch up with other movies from Julia Roberts without evoking the prostitute who takes up a new life thanks to Richard Gere. Much has to do, of course, with the chain of eternal reruns on general channels on Saturday afternoons. And the thing is that the delusional fairy tale is now a bit out of place.

But we cannot doubt that there is much more to this actress with an endless smile than just romantic films where she can captivate any viewer with the charms of her photogenic nature. Because thanks to her worked emotional charge, blessed by her features and that expressiveness made interpretive vein, Julia has been able to be the great star of dozens of films of a very diverse nature.

The bad news is that my selection includes films from the 90s that I consider essential from this actress. The good news is that I have no doubt that they are the best of her entire filmography. The essential thing about Julia Roberts if you want to discover her in all her interpretive splendor.

Top 3 Recommended Julia Roberts Movies

Erin Brockovich

Movies based on real events are not usually my favorites. Because deep down everything sounds like a forced epic. As he said, a hero is one who does what he can. So the great deeds or the crazy lives of great characters end up sounding like a kind of propaganda of the day.

And then there is the case of Erin Brockovich. Precisely the stereotype of heroine that she did what she could and more from her firm conviction in a common good that did not bring any glory to her person from the outset. A biography on which it is good to recreate because characters deserve it. An interpretation of Julia Roberts that wins with that romantic point of this actress that she deployed with the greatest possible intensity to make our heroine a person capable of transformation, a reference for anyone who breaks their face today for her ideals .

The climate issue and the falsehood of the large companies that exploit the world's resources. The perfect slap that turns off the usual facelift and returns to the public square the cynicism with which so many large corporations act, capable of anything, including harming humans to increase their profits.

Erin guides us through the law firms, through the hearing rooms, through the inherent risks of those who defend rights assaulted by the heartless who occupy the highest positions in the company on duty... A fast-paced movie.

The pelican report

AVAILABLE ON ANY OF THESE PLATFORMS:

There are not a few books John Grisham taken to the movies. And the point is that when this happens, courtroom thrillers take on a new dimension. This soap opera fits perfectly with the interpretation of Julia Roberts in a similar sense as Erin Brockovich. Because Julia is represented to us with her kind and firm physiognomy to expose herself to the most unexpected risks. Tension raised to maximum power, twists at the height of the novel that although it does not achieve such an intricate development as the novel (it is not easy to synthesize Grisham), it compensates with scenes capable of combining the sensation of citizen Roberts against Goliath with the idea that it is possible to continue coming out victorious with the simple slingshot.

Darby Shaw (Julia Roberts), a law student, writes a report in which she analyzes the possible reasons for the recent murder of two Supreme Court justices. The report will bring him many problems, counting only with the help of a journalist (Denzel Washington) who also wants to discover who is behind these murders.

deadly line

It has been difficult for me to decide between "Sleeping with His Enemy", that great Roberts thriller and this other suspense film but with nuances that border on the fantastic if not science fiction. In the end, my taste for adventures that border on the paranormal has been stronger.

And that perhaps Julia Roberts is not the main protagonist of this story. Since she shares a level with other greats of the moment like Kiefer Sutherland or Kevin Bacon. But it is she who bears the most transcendent weight of the narrative proposal about life, death and its thresholds...

Five medical students, who have studied some of the cases of people who came back to life after being clinically dead, decide to experience in themselves what is hidden beyond death, for which they must force the paralysis of the heart and the brain reflecting such vital signs monitors a horizontal line, after which they will proceed to revive the dead.

All of them take turns in this challenge between the medical, the metaphysical and even the religious. In their delirious adventure they bring us closer to the limits of medicine, to the possible existence of the soul, by moving between planes where past and present come together...

Only that the trip provokes its echoes and each one will have to cope with a kind of past that has folded into the present. The question is to close pending issues that consciousness cannot deal with and that only a spiritual notion of existence can deal with until the first beep of the heart that beats again. What happened to Julia in her case is the most emotional of the cases among all the researchers involved. Tearing through her to empathize with her and with any child who always had something pending with her father or her mother...

Leave the world behind

AVAILABLE HERE:

A good bad movie, depending on how you see it, depending on what day you're having even... Because this film plays with contradictory sensations, with slow atmospheres overlooking the catastrophe, with an ambiguity that makes it frivolous or intense, depending on how you want to see it.

Many were those who missed the series Friends when it disappeared from the television schedule. And the taciturn girl in this film knows that only in Friends is salvation for a world facing the tedium of absolute disaster.

Meanwhile, the adults go about their business trying to guess what is happening in the rest of the world, beyond a forest near New York. Because some signs point to imminent doom. What happens is that there are hardly any explosions or natural disasters, only at times and as something anecdotal. Because the important thing is how you can face the end of the world to the rhythm of jazz or whatever rhythm is most danceable among strange laughter...

journey to paradise

AVAILABLE ON ANY OF THESE PLATFORMS:

Comedies like this are a great hook to recover great actors and actresses perhaps parked lately. The thing about Julia Roberts in her tandem with George Clooney has a happy performance in this film towards more accessible humor. Jocular stereotypes between parents and children amplified in an ingenious plot towards the reunion with the daughter that points to vital paths never desired by father and mother.

Forced alliances to try to get a little girl who seems disoriented to them... A divorced couple gets together and travels to Bali to try to prevent their daughter, madly in love, from making the same mistake they think they made 25 years ago.

The question is already known where it is going to break. The vision of the following generation about the errors of the one that preceded it. The idea that, whether one is wrong or not, in most cases little can be done for the young woman to discover the world. And surely the final surprise that children can teach parents about mistakes that they made and that their children, however, have known how to avoid...
